On May 21st, the Qingdao Tulip Project located in Guxian Town, Pingdu City, entered its busiest period of the year. With the simultaneous activation of three harvesting machines, this year's tulip bulb harvest officially began. The harvest area for this season has reached over 300 acres, covering more than 50 varieties, with an expected yield of over 30 million bulbs.
After careful cultivation, the tulip bulbs this year have developed well and fully meet the standards of commercial bulbs.
In recent years, tulips have been widely planted in various regions across China, especially favored in tourist attractions, parks, and home gardening. The demand for tulip appreciation and cultivation continues to grow. Currently, nearly all the tulip bulbs planted in China depend on imports from the Netherlands, with new introductions needed every year. There is a scarcity of commercially viable domestically produced tulip bulbs available on the market. Data shows that in 2023, China imported over a billion tulip bulbs from the Netherlands, with an annual growth rate exceeding 30%. The Netherlands supplies nearly 90% of the global tulip bulbs.
Facing the robust domestic demand for tulips, Gupu has formulated a long-term project strategy. It establishes strategic partnerships with global horticulture and garden flower suppliers and partners to introduce excellent Dutch tulip varieties, advanced planting techniques, and intelligent equipment into the " Qingdao Tulip Project " . By utilizing these advanced planting technologies and management experiences, it continuously improves the quality and yield of bulbs. A stable supply chain system is established to meet the market's growing demand.
As the bulb harvesting work at the Qingdao Tulip Project commences, we have every reason to look forward to a bright future for the domestic propagation of tulip bulbs in China. Gupu will continue to contribute to the development of the entire industry with high-quality bulb resources, scientific cultivation management, and effective market strategies, bringing consumers more beautiful flowers and injecting new vitality into the sustainable development of the tulip industry.
